Configuring Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4 from a Remote Host

This section discusses remote configuration, that is, configuring Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4 from a remote host and then downloading the configuration file to Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4.

When To Use Remote Configuration

Typically, you use remote configuration when you have several Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4s with similar configurations and want to keep a master configuration on a remote host, from which you can easily create variations for downloading to individual Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4s.

Rules for Editing a Configuration file

Here are some rules for editing a configuration file on a remote host:

Edit the file with any text editor.

Each line of the file must start with a set command, such as set user or set line. In other words, do not let commands wrap to the next line if your editor supports this function.

Copying the Configuration File to a Host

This section describes how to copy the Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4 configuration file to a remote host for editing.

Starting Point

This procedure assumes that you

Have an existing configuration on the Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4 that you want to copy to a remote host for editing

Are logged in to Digi One/PortServer TS 2/4 as root, which is a requirement for using the cpconf command to copy the configuration file to a host

Procedure

1.Create a file with appropriate write permissions on the remote host.

2.Ensure that TFTP is running on the remote host.

3.Supply a cpconf command with a tohost field that specifies the following:

The IP address of the target host

The name of the file that will hold the configuration.
