Inmostcases,selectingandmeasuringarepresentativeperiodofspeechwithinthe
programwillserveasagoodexampleoftheoveralldialoguelevelthroughoutthe
program,providedgoodmixingpracticesareobserved.Insomecasessuchas
documentaries,locationsound,andsoon,itmaybedifficulttomatchthedialoguelevel
fromsectiontosection,andwhilethedialoguelevelindicatorontheDP570canhelp,your
earsarethebesttool.
TodetermineaDialogueLevelvaluefortheprogram,useshort‐termmeasurementsas
theyprovideameasurementovera10‐secondperiodofprogramaudioanddonotaverage
themeasurementoveralongperiodoftime.Formoreinformationonthemeasurement
modes,seeSection4.7.2.
PressingtheAcceptbuttonresetstheDialogueLevelparameterwithintheoutput
metadatastreamfeedingdownstreamequipmenttoequaltheyellowvalue.Thegreen
numberchangestothevalueselected.
5.2.2 Monitoring the Dialogue Level
Asyoumix,checkthedialoguelevelindicator—theyellownumbersshowninFigure5‐2—
frequentlytobesurethattheprogramstayswithinacceptablelimits.

theimportantspeechcontentwilloccurinthischannel.MeasureboththeLeftand
Rightchannelsofstereoinput.
