A.2 Setting Delay Values
Foroptimalperformance,signalsfromallthespeakersshouldarriveatthereference
listeningpositionsimultaneously.Thisisaccomplishedbyassigningdelaystoeach
speaker.
Measureandrecordthedistancefromthereferencelisteningpositiontoeachofthe
followingspeakers.NomeasurementisnecessaryforBackSurroundspeakers,asthis
valueisautomaticallycalculatedasafunctionofDolbySurroundEX™.
•Leftspeaker(L)andRightspeaker(R)
•Centerspeaker(C)
•LeftSurroundspeaker(Ls)
•RightSurroundspeaker(Rs)
Inthecalculationsthatfollow:
•LequalsthedistancefromtheLeftspeakertothereferencelisteningposition
•RequalsthedistancefromtheRightspeakertothereferencelisteningposition
•CequalsthedistancefromtheCenterspeakertothereferencelisteningposition
•SequalstheshorterofthedistancesfromLsorRstothereferencelisteningposition

A.2.1 Calculating Delay Values

Center Delay

LminusC(LC)equalstheCenterdelaysettinginmilliseconds.
Forexample,ifCis2feetfewerthanLorR,setCenterdelayto2ms.IfCis3feetmore
thanLorR,setCenterdelayto–3ms.IfC=L=R,setCenterdelayto0ms.
Note: TheLandRspeakersshouldbeequidistantfromthereferencelisteningposition.
Repositionthemifnecessary.
Note: Thecalculationsbelowassumeyouaremeasuringinfeetandinches.Ifyouare
measuringinmetricunits,triplethedistancemeasured.
Note: IfyousetanegativeCenterdelayvalue,theDP570actuallysetsCenterdelayto
0msandaddscorrespondingpositivedelaytimetotheLeft,Right,andsurround
outputs.
