A. Chimney Requirements
Measure vertical distances from the base of the fireplace.
Determine the chimney components needed to complete your particular installation:
|
| Feet | Meters | • Measure the total vertical height of the fireplace installation |
|
| from the base of the fireplace assembly to the approximate | ||
• Minimum overall straight height | 18 | 5.49 | location of the bottom of the termination cap.
• Minimum height with offset/return | 18.5 | 5.64 | • Subtract the effective height of the fireplace assembly (see
• | Maximum height | 50 | 15.24 | Figure 8.2) from the total vertical height to determine the |
• Maximum chimney length between an offset | 20 | 6.10 | overall height of the chimney installation.
| and return |
|
| • Create a schematic for your application similar to Figure |
• | Maximum distance between chimney | 25 | 7.62 | 8.2 showing components required (referring to Table 8.1). |
| stabilizers |
|
| Figure 8.1 identifies those components and where used. |
• Maximum unsupported chimney length | 6 | 1.83 | • Install a ceiling firestop whenever the chimney penetrates
| between the offset and return |
|
| a floor/ceiling. |
• Maximum unsupported chimney height above | 25 | 7.62 | NOTICE: A maximum of one offset and return may be

|
| |
• | Maximum unsupported chimney above roof | 6 | 1.83 | used. |
WARNING! Risk of Fire! You must maintain 2 in. (51 mm) | CAUTION! Risk of Fire and/or Asphyxiation! DO NOT
connect this fireplace to a chimney flue servicing another
air space clearance to insulation and other combustible
appliance. Do NOT connect to any air distribution duct
materials around the chimney system. Failure to do so may
or system. These actions could cause overheating/fire
cause overheating and fire.
in the chimney flue, or release of exhaust fumes into the
| ||
| living areas. |
