3 Connecting the HDC-401EX to the Computer Using the USB Cable

If your computer is running Windows 98/98SE, you must perform the procedure specified under Installing the HDC-401EX Driver in the Computer P79 before you can connect your HDC-401EX to the computer. Before connecting the HDC-401EX to the computer, be sure to turn off the

camera power.

When connecting the HDC-401EX to the computer, be sure to check the remaining battery power. Although the Power Off Time function is disabled while the camera is connected to the computer, the camera will turn off if the batteries are exhausted. If the camera is turned off while connecting, the computer may not operate correctly or recorded data may be damaged.

If the camera is to remain connected to the computer for a long period of time, use of the AC adapter (sold separately) is recommended.

Using the AC Adapter P51 .

Turn off the power.

Check to see if the camera power is turned off.

 

 

If the camera is still on, press the power switch

 

 

to turn off the power.

Plug the larger connector of the USB cable into the USB port on the

Press the power switch to turn on the camera power.

If your HDC-401EX was connected to the computer for the first time, the New Hardware wizard is displayed. It will quickly navigate you through the necessary steps so that the computer can automatically recognize the HDC- 401EX. Wait for a while until the setting is completed and the wizard disappears.

If the New Hardware Search wizard screen is displayed, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

When the Search Wizard is Completed screen is displayed, click Finish.

In Windows XP, the OS,s

Automatic Recovery wizard is displayed.

Click Do not do anything and then click OK.

4 The HDC-401EX is recognized as a removable disk.

A removable disk is displayed under My Computer.

Notes on USB Connection

The LCD monitor shows USB Mode, and images and other data won,t be displayed.

The power off time function is disabled.

Power won,t be supplied to the HDC-401EX from the computer.

Do not disconnect the USB cable or touch the camera (interface cover, control panel, shutter button, etc.) while the HDC-401EX is communicating with the computer. Doing so may damage the stored data.

When disconnecting the HDC-401EX, be sure to operate in accordance with Removing the HDC-401EX P85
