PCL Printing Status

To view your printer’s status, open the HP LaserJet 5L PCL Printer group within Program Manager and select Status Window. As shown in Figure 3-4 below, the status window reports your printer’s current status. In this case, the printer is Ready.

As with the host-based software, the PCL software has its own, unique status window, but both windows cannot be active at the same time. To use both drivers, see “Using Host-Based and PCL Drivers Together” below.

Using Host-Based and PCL Drivers Together

Occasionally conflicts may arise between the host-based and PCL drivers’ status windows, and an error message may appear. Should this occur, you can disable one of the drivers using one of the following three methods:

Turn off the PCL software status window by selecting Device Options, No Status from the PCL Printer Settings window.

Remove either the PCL or host-based software by selecting Main, Control Panel, Printers from Program Manager and then deleting the printer driver.

Select HP 5L Uninstall from the HP LaserJet 5L Printer Group in Program Manager.
