U.S. TV Program Ratings Chart

The TV Parental Guidelines has seven levels of age- based ratings that can be selected. These seven levels are split into two age-based groups:

youth age-based ratings and guidance age-based ratings. Some of these age-based ratings can also have content-based ratings, denoted as D (dialogue), L (language), S (sex), and V (violence). The table below shows the age-based ratings selection.

NR	TV-NR	■	Viewable	Not Rated. See CAUTION under “Canadian French
(Not Rated)		■	Blocked	Ratings Chart” on page 53.
Youth	TV-Y	■	Viewable	All children. The themes and elements in this program
		■	Blocked	are specifically designed for a very young audience,
				including children from ages 2–6.
	TV-Y7	■	FV Blocked	Directed to older children. Themes and elements in
		■	Viewable	this program may include mild physical or comedic
		■	Blocked	violence, or may frighten children under the age of 7.
Guidance	TV-G	■	Viewable	General audience. It contains little or no violence, no
		■	Blocked	strong language, and little or no sexual dialogue or
				situations.
	TV-PG	■	D,L,S,V	Parental guidance suggested. The program may
			(all selected)	contain infrequent coarse language, limited violence,
		■	Any combination	some suggestive sexual dialogue and situations.

	TV-14	■	D,L,S,V	Parents strongly cautioned. This program may contain
			(all selected)	sophisticated themes, sexual content, strong language
