Workflow for Connecting Peripherals

This chapter explains how to connect all peripherals, other than video I/O, to the HP Z800 workstation. It begins with an overview of the backplane, identifying the adapter cards. Next it provides instructions for connecting the basic peripherals, including the graphics monitor, keyboard, and mouse. It also includes instructions for connecting the workstation to the house network, and Wire network. For Lustre, it additionally provides instructions on connecting to Autodesk Control Surfaces and the Slave Renderer. For information on connecting video I/O, see Setting Up Video Hardware on page 19.

NOTE It is recommended you connect all hardware peripherals, as instructed in this guide, before booting the workstation for the first time. However, if you are installing or reinstalling the Linux operating system, be sure to power-down or disconnect any direct attached storage before booting. If you do not, Linux may attempt to reformat and install on the attached storage, destroying all stored media in the process.
