Notation Conventions

A number of style conventions are used throughout your documentation. These conventions and examples of their use are shown as follows.

Convention

Text that you enter in a command line or shell appears

install rpm -qa

in Courier bold. Press the Enter key after each com-

 

mand.

 

Variable names appear in Courier, enclosed in angle

<filename>

brackets.

 

Feedback from the command line or shell appears in

limit coredumpsize

Courier.

 

Directory names, filenames, URLs, and command line

/usr/discreet

utilities appear in italics.
