Ports

As mentioned in the Introduction, the type of media c onverter ports will
vary from model to model. Refer to each model’s Specic ations at the
back of this manual to identify a port, and see bel ow for explanations of
their various uses and limits.
Auto MDI/MDI-X
Though not a port per se, the Auto MDI/MDI-X func tion on a converter’s
RJ-45 port alleviates concer ns about cabling conguration when con necting
to a 1000Base-T device. Whet her connecting to a switch, a LAN card or
any other network device via the RJ-45 p ort, simply plug it in and proceed.

10/100Base -TX Port
A 10/100Base-TX port supports network sp eeds of either 10 Mbps or
100 Mbps, and can operate in half and full duplex transfer modes. T he
RJ-45 connector is suitable for U TP cable Category 3, 4, 5 or better.
10/100/1000B ase-T Por t
The 10/100/1000Base-T port supports a network sp eed of 10 Mbps,
100 Mbps or 1,000 Mbps, and operates in ful l duplex transfer mode. The
RJ-45 connector is suitable for U TP cable Category 5 or better.
10/100/1000B ase-TX P ort
A 10/100/1000Base-TX port supports networ k speeds of 10 Mbps, 100
Mbps or 1,000 Mbps, and can operate in half and full duplex transfe r
modes. The RJ-45 connector is suit able for UTP cable Category 3, 4,
5 or better.
100Base-FX Port
A 100Base-FX port adds a ber Fast Ethernet li nk to your network device.
Compliant with IEEE 802.3u, this port can t ransmit data at 100 Mbps in
