Whenthe ovencontrols are settoCLEAN, the oven heats totemperaturesthat are
higherthan those usedfor cooking. Thehigh temperaturescausefood soil to burn off
and substantially disappear. Whilethis occurs, a devicein the oven vent helpsto
consumenormalamounts ofsmoke. The oven is ventedthroughan opening under the
airgrille.
• Remove the broiler pan and any other utensils from theoven. These utensilscannot
withstand the high temperatures of thecleaning process.
Clean spatters andspills from those areas which will not be cleaned during the self-
cleaning process:
- center front of oven and door near opening in door gasket.
- porcelain oven doorliner (areaoutsidethe door gasket).
- oven frontframe.

To clean these areas,usehot water and detergent, _\_
nonabrasive cleansers or soap filled steelwool pads.
Rinsethoroughly, beingcarefulnottousean excessive
amount of water that would dampen the door gasket. _--_jj_h_._.-._\__/i
Soil left in these areas willbe more difficult toremove
after the self-cleaning process since the high heat will
bake on any soil that is present. DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERS
TO CLEAN THESE AREAS.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN, RUB, OR APPLY WATER TO GASKET ON OVEN
DOOR. Thegasketisessentialfor a good door seal. Rubbing orcleaning will
damagethe gasket and may affect the seal.
Wipe up excess grease and food spillovers which havenotbaked on thebottom of
theoven. Largeaccumulations of soilcan cause heavy smokeor fire in theoven
duringthe cleaning process. For easeof cleaning,the heating element can be lifted
slightly.
Although smokeor firein theoven is anormal occurrence and there is no safety
problem, there will beventing of excessive smoke and odor.
• Remove theair grille before self-cleaning. Since the oven vent is located just
beneath the air grille, soot from the vent could discolor white colored air grilles.
