Selecting Exposure Metering
To ensure proper exposure, your camera features three metering systems for
measuring the amount of light entering the camera lens: Multi-Pattern, Center-
Weighted, and Center Spot metering.
NOTE: Select a metering s ystem to control how lig ht affects the
subject in your pictures.
1 Set the Mode dial to a Capture
setting (P, 2.8, 5.6, or 8).
2Press the Menu button to disp lay
the Capture Menu screen.
3Press a button until the
icon is highlighted.
4Press OK to display the Metering
screen.
5Press a button to highlight the M etering system you want to
use.
MULTI-PATTERN (default)—evaluates the lighting cond itions in the
entire scene to give an even picture exposure. Ideal for general pic ture
taking.
CENTER-WEIGHTED—evaluates the lighting conditions of t he subject
centered in the viewfinder. Ideal for backlit su bjects.
CENTER SPOT—similiar to Center-Weighted, except th e metering is
concentrated on a sma ller area of the subject centered in the
viewfinder. Ideal when an ex act exposure of a specifi c area in the
picture is needed.
6Press OK to accept the changes and return to the Menu screen.
7Press Menu to exit the Menu screen.
This setting remains unti l you change it.
