Settingthengerprintreader
Ifyouwanttochangethesettingsofthengerprintreader,followtheprocedurebelow.
ThengerprintsubmenuundertheSecuritymenuoftheThinkPadSetupoffersthefollowingchoices:
•PredesktopAuthentication:Enableordisablengerprintauthenticationbeforetheoperatingsystem
isloaded.
•ReaderPriority:Denethepriorityforngerprintreadersifanexternalngerprintreaderisattached.
•SecurityMode:Specifythesettingsofthesecuritymode.
•PasswordAuthentication:Enableordisablepasswordauthentication.
Note:ThisitemappearsifHighsecuritymodeisselected.
•ResetFingerprintData:Bychoosingthisitem,youcaneraseallofthengerprintdatastor edineither
theinternalorexternalngerprintr eader.
Tosetaniteminthengerprintsubmenu:
1.Printtheseinstructions.T ocongurethengerprintreader,youmustturnyourcomputeroffand
thenonagain.
2.Saveallopenles,andexitallapplications.
3.Turnyourcomputeroffandthenonagain.
4.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1.TheThinkPadSetupopens.
5.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoSecurity,andpressEnter.TheSecuritymenuopens.
6.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoFingerprint,andpr essEnter.TheFingerprintsubmenuopens.
7.Usingthecursorkeys,movetoanitemyouwanttoset.Whenthatitemishighlighted,pressEnter.
8.Settheitemsyouwanttoset.
9.PressF10toexit.

Careforthengerprintreader
Thefollowingactionscoulddamagethengerprintreaderorcauseitnottoworkproperly:
•Scratchingthesurfaceofthereaderwithahard,pointedobject.
•Scrapingthesurfaceofthereaderwithyourngernailoranythinghard.
•Usingortouchingthereaderwithadirtynger.
Ifyounoticeanyofthefollowingconditions,gentlycleanthesurfaceofthereaderwithadry,soft,lint-free
cloth:
•Thesurfaceofthereaderisdirtyorstained.
•Thesurfaceofthereaderiswet.
•Thereaderoftenfailstoenrollorauthenticateyourngerprint.
Ifyourngerhasanyofthefollowingconditions,youmightnotbeabletor egisterorauthenticateit:
•Yourngeriswrinkled.
•Yourngerisrough,dry,orinjured.
