Considerationsforattachinganexternalmonitor
Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatissupplied
withthecomputer,andtheMonitorINFlethatissuppliedwiththeexternalmonitor.
Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthepanel,anduseapanelthatdoesnot
supportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,whichenablesyoutodisplayonlya
partofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerpr oduces.Youcanseeotherpartsoftheimage
bymovingthescreenwiththeT rackPointorotherpointingdevice.
Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemaybelimited.
AsforThinkPadW520models,theCRTconnectordoesnotworkintheDOSenvironmentatNVIDIA
OptimusmodeorIntegratedGraphicsmode,youneedtochangetoDiscreteGraphicsmodetoturnon
theCRTmonitor.IfthereisnodisplaytochangetheThinkPadSetupsetting,pressF7toswitchto
theDiscreteGraphicsmoderightafterpower-on.
UsingtheDVImonitor
Ifyourcomputerhasoneoftheoptionalexpansionunits,aThinkPadMiniDockPlusSeries3,aThinkPad
MiniDockSeries3,oraThinkPadMiniDockPlusSeries3(170W),youcanusetheDigitalVisualInterface
(DVI)monitorthroughtheDVIconnectorofthatunit.
