Increasingmemorycapacityisaneffectivewaytomakeprogramsrunfaster.Youcanincreasetheamount
ofmemoryinyourcomputerbyinstallingadoubledataratethreesynchronousdynamicrandomaccess
memoryunbufferedsmalloutlinedualinlinememorymodule(SDRAM),availableasanoption,inthememory
slotofthecomputer.SO-DIMMswithdifferentcapacitiesareavailable.
Note:Ifyourcomputerisadual-coreprocessormodel,twoDummyDIMMcardsarepreinstalledanddo
notreplacetheDummyDIMMcardswithSO-DIMMs.Fordetails,refertotheinstructionsin“Increasingor
replacingmemory(W520)”onpage139.
Prerequisitesfortheprocedure
Whenreplacingthememory,besuretofollowtheprecautions.
Note:Theoperatingspeedofthememorymoduledependsonthesystemcongurationofyourcomputer
anditscombinationwiththememorymoduleinstalledonyourcomputer.Insomeconditions,thememoryin
yourcomputermaynotbeabletooperateatthemaximumspeed.
Attention:Beforeyoustartinstallingamodule,touchametaltableoragroundedmetalobject.Thisaction
reducesanystaticelectricityfromyourbody.ThestaticelectricitycoulddamagetheSO-DIMM.
Replacingmemory(T520andT520i)
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.

•UseeitheraPC3-8500oraPC3-10600DDR3synchronousDRAMunbufferedSO-DIMMinyour
computer.IfyouinstallanSO-DIMMthatisnotsupportedbyyourcomputer,thecomputermaybeep,
andthesystemmaynotstartormaynotworkproperly.Youcanpurchasetheappropriatememoryoption
fromyourLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentative.

computer.ToreplacetheSO-DIMM,followtheprocedurebelow.

1.T urnoffthecomputer;thendisconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
