broadband inter-s interface (B-ICI)

An interface between public ATM networks.

broadcast

To send one or more messages to multiple addresses on one or more networks.

BSR

BTDS

See bit-transparent data service (BTDS) (page 20).

buffer

A linked list of blocks. The blocks that make up a buffer are not necessarily contiguous. Buffers are composed of multiple blocks when the user data does not fit into a single block. The linkage of blocks to form a buffer is managed by the queue controller.

buffer memory

See shared memory (page 121).

building-integrated timing supply (BITS)

The most accurate and stable clock source within a physical structure. All digital equipment in the structure receives timing reference from the same master clock. BITS derives its signal from a stratum-3E or better reference signal. BITS provides network clock synchronization through external timing to the Nortel Multiservice Switch 7400, Multiservice Switch 15000, or Multiservice Switch 20000 node.
