Recording modes and approximate recording

When FR (Flexible Recording Mode) (See right) appears on the screen while a button is being pressed, it means that the corresponding operation is prohibited by the unit or the disc.

*1 Recording time of double-sided disc is sum total of both sides of disc.

*2 When “Recording time in EP mode” (p. 68) is set to “EP (6 H)” in the SETUP menu. The sound quality is better when using “EP (6 H)” than when using “EP (8 H)”.

Note:

When recording to DVD-RAM using “EP (8 H)” mode, play may not be possible on DVD players that are compatible with DVD-RAM. In this case use “EP (6 H)” mode.

FR (Flexible Recording Mode) (See right)

The unit automatically selects a recording rate between XP and EP (8 H) that will enable the recordings to fit in the available recording time on the disc with the best possible recording quality.

You can set when programming timer recordings.

All the recording modes from XP to EP appear in the display.

Selecting audio to record

RAM DVD-R

Select whether to record the main or secondary audio type (SAP) when recording to DVD-R or DVD-RAM. (You cannot change secondary audio when recording audio to DVD-R or DVD-RAM from an external source.) (p. 69)

Flexible Recording (FR)

The unit calculates a recording rate that enables the recording to fit in the time you set (within the remaining time on the disc) with the best picture quality.

• Select the channel to record.

1 Press F REC in Stop mode.

You can also select “FLEXIBLE RECORDING” on the DVD/SD Functions Window. (p. 35)

2 Press ◄► to select “Hour” and “Min.” and press ▲▼ to set the recording time.

You can also set the recording time with the NUMBER keys.

Maximum recording time is 8 hours.

3 Press ▲▼◄► to select “Start” and press ENTER to start recording.

Recording starts.

The recording mode becomes FR mode.

Note:

It is not possible to change channel or recording mode while Flexible Recording is paused.

To exit the screen without recording

Press RETURN.

To stop recording partway

Press STOP.
