Trouble Checks

Troubles sometimes are caused by simple “faults” that you can easily correct without the help of a service technician by first checking a few basic remedies.

Before you call or take your camcorder to an Authorized RCA Camcorder Servicenter, look below for the type of trouble you are experiencing. Then perform the simple checks and adjustments listed for that trouble.

No power

• If using battery, it may need to be recharged.

 

 

• Make sure adapter/charger is plugged into working outlet.

 

 

 

 

Won’t record or

• Make sure adapter/charger is plugged into working outlet.

 

playback

• If DEW indicator appears in viewfinder, there is moisture in

 

 

the camcorder. Remove the cassette from camcorder and let

 

 

it dry naturally for at least one hour.

 

 

• There may be no cassette in the camcorder.

 

 

• Try ejecting and reinserting the cassette.

 

 

• The cassette tape may be broken, try another cassette.

 

 

• You may have reached end of cassette — try rewinding it.

 

 

 

 

Won’t playback

CAMERA/OFF/VCR switch must be in VCR.

 

 

 

 

Won’t record

• Safety tab has been closed. (See page 24.)

 

 

CAMERA/OFF/VCR switch must be in CAMERA.

 

 

 

 

No picture in

• Remove lens cap.

CAMERA/OFF/VCR switch must be in CAMERA.

 

 

 

 

Tape stops during

Time-counter zero memory may be on. Whenever “MEM

 

rewind or fast

appears under time-counter display, the camcorder will stop

 

forward

at “0:00:00 MEM”. Place DATE/TIME/NORMAL/TITLE in

 

 

NORMAL and press Z/MEMORY to turn off zero memory.

 

 

• Tape may be at the end or already rewound.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Camcorder remains

Viewfinder images

• Try adjusting eyepiece focus control. See page 31.

• Lens is smudged and image appears unfocused.

 

 

• The small BRIGHT and FOCUS controls on the viewfinder

 

 

are set at the factory and should need no adjustment. If they

 

 

require adjustment, carefully use a small plastic screwdriver

 

 

to prevent damaging the delicate controls.

 

Picture has digital effects

• Repeatedly press D•S•E to remove special effects.
