Viewing Closed Captions

Your TV decodes and displays the closed captions that are broadcast with certain TV shows. These captions are usually subtitles for the hearing impaired or foreign language translations. All VCRs record the closed caption signal from television programs, so home-recorded video tapes also provide closed captions. Most prerecorded commercial video tapes provide closed captions as well. Check for the closed caption symbol in your television schedule and on the tape’s packaging:

Press the ENTER button to select “Caption”.

3 Press the ▲ or ▼ button to turn closed captions “On” or “Off”, then press the ENTER button.

Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select “Caption Mode”,

4 then press the ENTER button.

Press the ▲ or ▼ button to select option (From CC1 to CC4, or From Text1 to Text4), then press the ENTER button.

CC1 ~ CC4, Text1 ~ Text4, Service1 ~ Service6 will be displayed for Digital Channels.

CC1 : The Primary Synchronous Caption Service. These are captions in the primary languages that must be in sync with the sound, perferably matched to a specific frame.

CC2 : The Special Non-Synchronous Use Captions. This channel carries data that is intended to augment information carried in the program.

T1 : First Text Service. This may be various non-program related data.

T2 : Second Text Service. Additional data, usually not program related.

CC3 : Secondary Synchronous Caption Service. Alternate program-related caption data, typically second language captions.

CC4 : Special Non-Synchronous Use Captions. Similar to CC2.

T3/T4 : Third and Fourth Text Services. These data channels should be used only if T1 and T2 data bandwidths not sufficient.

5 Press the MENU button to exit.

• Closed captions don't work on component mode.
