Whenyou use the self-timer function, the subject is recorded 10 seconds after you
pressthe shutter button.
Select onthe LCD screen with b/B/v/V on the control button, then press the
centerz. The (self-timer)indicator appears on the LCD screen, and the subject is
recorded10 seconds after you press the shutterbutton. The self-timer lamp flashes
afteryou press the shutter button until the image is recorded.
Theinitial setting is AUTO (no indication). In this mode,the flash automatically
strobes when the surroundings become dark. To change the flash mode, press
(Flash) repeatedly so that the flash mode indicator appears on the L CD screen.
Eachtime you press the button, the indicator changes as follows.

Autored-eye reduction : The flashstrobes before recording to reduce the red-
eyephenom enon.
Forcedflas h : The flash strobes regardless of the surrounding brightnes s.
Noflash : The flashdoes notstrobe.
Youcan change the amount of the flash light with [FLASH LEVEL] in the menu
settings (page 44).
Notes
Therecommended shootin g distance is 0.3 to 2.5 m (1 to 8 1/3 feet).
Attachinga conversion lens(not supplied) may block the light from the flash and the recorded
imagemay be eclipsed.
Youcannot use the built-in flash and an external strobe at t he same time.
Autored-eye reduction may not produce the desiredred-eye reduction effects depending
onindividual differences, the distanc e to the subject, if the subject does not see the pre-strobe,
orother conditions.
Theflash effect is not obtained e asily when you use forced flash in a bright location.
