Troubleshoot security protection

Check here for possible solutions to issues that might arise with Norton Internet Security.

Does Norton Internet Security work with my ISP’s proxy server?

Norton Internet Security works with most proxy servers. However, you might have to change some settings to maintain full protection.

To determine whether the Personal Firewall works with your proxy server

1In the main window, click Statistics.

2In the Statistics window, click More Details.

3Under Network, look at the All Bytes Sent and All Bytes Received counters.

4Use your browser to connect to a Web site.

The All Bytes Sent and All Bytes Received counters in the Norton Internet Security Statistics window should increase as you access Web pages. This indicates that the Personal Firewall is correctly configured to work with your proxy server.

5To close the Norton Internet Security Statistics window, on the File menu, click Exit.

If the All Bytes Sent and All Bytes Received counters stay at 0, then the Personal Firewall is probably not monitoring the port used by your proxy server. You need to determine which ports your proxy server is using for HTTP communications, and then configure the Personal Firewall to monitor those ports.

To determine which port to monitor for HTTP communication

1Use your browser to connect to a Web site.

2In the main window, click Statistics.

3In the Statistics window, click View Logs.

Phishing protection is another essential characteristic of this suite. NIS 2005 employs browser protection that alerts users to potential phishing websites that attempt to steal sensitive information such as passwords and banking details. The product actively blocks access to these fraudulent sites, ensuring a safer browsing experience.

Additionally, NIS 2005 offers user-friendly parental controls that allow parents to monitor and restrict their children’s online activities. This feature provides options to block inappropriate content and set time limits, fostering a safer internet environment for younger users.

The suite is designed with minimal system impact in mind, allowing users to run their daily applications without noticeable slowdowns. Furthermore, its intuitive interface makes it easy for users of all experience levels to navigate the software and manage their security settings effectively.
