The web server and FTP server of the digital receiver don’t
workin standby mode. Soit must be powered up all the time
ifyou wish to use the web service at any time.
8.1 Configuring the router
Inthis section, the setup program of WRT54G, which is a router
manufacturedby Linksys, will be referred to as an exemplary
tohelp your understanding of how to configure the router for
networkconnection.

8.1.1 Toaccess within the local area network

Once your router is powered up, a local area network gets
createdwhether or not it is connected to the Internet.
Youcan let the router automatically as-
sign a dynamic IP address to the com-
puters or devices connected to the net-
work by enabling the DHCP server of
the router. In this case, you can access
the digital receiverwith the IP address
whichis assigned to the digital receiver
bythe router.
Ifthe digital receiver reboots, a new dynamic IP address will be
assignedto it. Youhad better assign a static IP address to the
digitalreceiver to avoid this inconvenience. Forhow to assign
astatic IP address, refer to the manual of your router. For how
tospecify a static IP address on the digital receiver, see § 8.2.
