Thetelephonecablemaybedamagedortheconnectionsmaybeloose.Usewindows applicationtocheckdevicecanworkfineornot.Attempttoconnectthecomputertoa networkthroughusingthemodem.Ifthemodemdoesnotfunctionatall,gotoProcedure3. Iftheattemptfailsbecausethecomputerdetectsnotelephonesignal,thefaultmaybeinthe telephonecable,thewallsocketorthemodemport.PerformCheck1:
Check1 Makesuretelephonecableisfirmlypluggedintoboththetelephonewallsocket
andthemodemportofthecomputer.Ifthecableisconnectedcorrectly,goto
Check2.
Check2 Makesurethemodemportisfirmlysecuredtothesystemboardofthecomputer. Ifthemalfunctionremains,gotoCheck3.
Check3 Thetelephonecablemaybedamaged.Replacewithagoodcable.Ifthe malfunctionremains,gotoProcedure2.
