SCANNING OPERATION

Channel-Skip Scanning

Continuous-carrier stations like ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) or Weather Broadcast stations inhibit scanner operation. Since these stations are always active, the scanner will be halted repeatedly on their chan- nels. Such channels can be set to be “Skipped” during Memory scanning (MR, Book or WX modes), if you like, so as not to interfere with automatic channel scanning:

rRecall the Memory Channel to be skipped during scan- ning.

rPress and hold the key for 2 seconds. The “t” icon will appear at the left of the frequency display, indicating that the channel is to be ignored during scan- ning.

rLater, to re-enable the memory channel for scanning, repeat the first two steps. The “t” icon will disap- pear by the channel you have just re-enabled.

Note: A memory set to be “Skipped” is still accessible for manual memory selection using the DIAL selector knob.

Programmable (Band Limit) Memory Scan (PMS)

This feature allows you to set sub-band limits for either scanning or manual VFO operation. For example, you might with to set up a limit of COM band (118.000 MHz to 136.975 MHz. Here’s how to do this:

rSet the radio to the VFO mode by pressing the key and set the radio to the AIR band by pressing the key, if necessary.

rUsing the techniques learned earlier, store 118.000 MHz into Memory Channel “Lch” (the “Lch” desig- nates the Lower sub-band limit).

rLikewise, store 136.975 MHz into Memory Channel “Uch” (the “Uch” designates the Upper sub-band limit).

rSwitch to the Memory mode by pressing the key once, then rotate the DIAL to select Memory Channel “Lch.”

rPress and hold in the key for 2 seconds to start PMS operation; the “MR” label will be replaced by “PMS” in the upper left-hand corner of the display.

rTuning and scanning (pressing the key) will now be limited within the just-programmed range.
