Answering system setup

Most of the answering system settings are changed with a system handset.

Answer ON/OFF

The answering system must be turned on to answer and record messages.

When the answering system is turned on, the Answering system setup/ANS ON/OFF light on the telephone base turns on and ANS ON displays on the handset.

To turn on or off with the telephone base:

• Press Answer ON/OFF/ANS ON/OFF to turn the built-in answering system on or off. When the answering system is turned on, it announces, “Calls will be answered.” When the answering system is turned off, it announces, “Calls will not be answered.”

To turn on or off with a handset:

1.Press MENU/SELECT when the handset is not in use.

2.Press To turn on or off with the telephone base:CID or To turn on or off with a handset: to select Call screeningAnswering sys, then press MENU/SELECT.

3.Press To turn this feature on or off:CID or 4.Press MENU/SELECT to select Call screening. to select Manual backgroundAnswer on/off, then press MENU/SELECT.

4.Press Manual backgroundCID or Manual background to choose On or Off, then press MENU/SELECT to confirm your selection. You hear a confirmation tone.

Call screening

You can hear incoming messages at the telephone base while they are being recorded.

To turn this feature on or off:

1.Press MENU/SELECT when the handset is not in use.

2.Press Manual backgroundCID or Manual background to select Manual backgroundAnswering sys, then press MENU/SELECT.

3.Press Manual backgroundCID or Manual background to select Manual backgroundAns sys setup, then press MENU/SELECT.

4.Press MENU/SELECT to select Manual backgroundCall screening.

5.PressManual backgroundCID or Manual background to choose On or Off, then press MENU/SELECT to confirm your selection. You hear a confirmation tone.

• If call screening is set to On while the answering system is answering a call, press Manual backgroundManual background/PLAY/STOP on the telephone base to temporarily turn off call screening; or, press Manual background/VOLUME to temporarily decrease the volume.

If call screening is set to Off while the answering system is answering a call, press Manual backgroundManual background/PLAY/STOP or Manual background/VOLUME once on the telephone base to temporarily turn on the call screening.
