| 1. | A web browser makes a request for a domain name. This request is received by WAN 1. | ||||
| 2. | The domain name request is transferred and processed through the Authoritative DNS Module. | ||||
| 3. | The DNS Module then asks the WAN Port Monitoring Module to provide the IP address of the | ||||
|
| requested web server. |

| |
| 4. | The WAN Port Monitoring Module service checks the current load on WAN 1 and WAN 2. | ||||
| 5. | The Load Balance Algorithm is applied to the request. This holds the Gateway’s user preferences | ||||
|
| and setting values including |

| 6. | The Load Balancing Algorithm determines that WAN 2 has the least amount of traffic sessions | ||||
|
| and therefore instructs the DNS Module to use WAN 2. |
|
| ||
| 7. | A reply from the Gateway is then sent back through WAN 1 to the source of the DNS request. | ||||
| 8. | The web browser receives the Gateway’s reply and is forwarded to the domain name’s respective | ||||
|
| IP address. The web browser will now retrieve the information that was requested. | ||||
| 9. | The information request is then directed through WAN 2. |
