DMA (Direct Memory Access)

DMA is a method that transfers data between various peripheral devices (e.g., a hard drive, CD-R/RW drive, etc.) and the computer memory without going through the CPU in the computer. Using DMA transfer increases not only the data transfer speed but also the processing speed by decreasing straining of the CPU.
