Additional Connector Information

TP connectors

All LAN ports, whether on XTP boards or the switcher Ethernet port use Category (CAT) 5e, CAT 6a, or CAT 7 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) or shielded twisted pair (STP) cables.

The XTP ports are compatible with Extron XTP DTP 24 SF/UTP cables, as well as CAT 5e, 6, 6a, and 7 shielded twisted pair (F/UTP, SF/UTP, and S/FTP) and unshielded twisted pair (U/UTP) cable.

Both TP cable types are terminated with RJ-45 connections. Cables are limited to a length of 330 feet (100 m).

NOTES:

• For XTP connections, Extron recommends 24 AWG, solid conductor, shielded cable, with a minimum bandwidth of 250 MHz.

• Do not stretch or bend cables. Transmission errors can occur.

The switcher LAN port and the LAN ports on the input and output boards support both 10 Mbps (10Base-T — Ethernet) and 100 Mbps (100Base-T — Fast Ethernet), half-duplex and full-duplex Ethernet connections. Both Ethernet speeds require CAT 5e cable at minimum.

The TP cable can be terminated as a straight-through cable or a crossover cable for the LAN port and must be properly terminated for your application (see figure 4).

XTP board XTP cables

ATTENTION:

•Do not connect these boards to a computer data or telecommunications network.

•Do not use Extron UTP23SF-4 Enhanced Skew-Free AV UTP cable or STP201 cable to link the XTP products.

•To ensure FCC Class A and CE compliance, STP cables and STP connectors are required.

Extron recommends using the following practices to achieve full transmission distances up to 330 feet (100 m) and reduce transmission errors.

Use the following Extron XTP DTP 24 SF/UTP cables and connectors for the best performance:

If not using XTP DTP 24 cable, at a minimum, Extron recommends

24 AWG, solid conductor, STP cable with a minimum bandwidth of 400 MHz.

Terminate cables with shielded connectors to the TIA/EIA T568B standard only (patch cables, see figure 4 on the previous page).

patch points, punch down connectors, couplers, and power injectors. If these pass-through points are required, use CAT 6 or 6a shielded couplers and punch down connectors.

NOTE: When using cable in bundles or conduits, consider the following:

•Do not exceed 40% fill capacity in conduits.

• Do not comb the cable for the first 20 m, where cables are straightened, aligned, and secured in tight bundles.

•	Loosely place cables and limit the use of tie wraps or hook and
	loop fasteners.
•	Separate twisted pair cables from AC power cables.
