MAINTENANCE

GTI REMOVAL

When you are about to remove a GTI from an EDACS Repeater cabinet in a working system, you must take special care to avoid disrupting the system. There are two recommended procedures: one procedure for when the GTI is connected to a MASTR II or IIe EDACS Repeater, and the other procedure for when the GTI is connected to a MASTR III EDACS Repeater.

If you are upgrading the software in the GTIs, see the Software Replacement heading in the Maintenance section of this manual.

MASTR II or IIe Repeaters

Use the following procedure to disconnect a GTI from a MASTR II or IIe EDACS Repeater. (An alternative to using the jumper in step 3, is to disable the radio channel through the System Manager (RF parameter in screen 20, panel 1:5). However, this reduces the number of available radio channels by one and therefore should only be used for a very short period of time, if at all.)

1.Disable the Interconnect parameter through the System Manager (screen 10, panel 1) for the specific channel number associated with the GTI being removed.

2.Disable the Line Active parameter through the System Manager (screen 14) for the specific channel number associated with the GTI being removed.

3.Add a jumper between pins 2 and 3 of the Power/Audio plug on the back panel of the GTI (see Figure 45).

4.Disconnect the Power/Audio plug from the back panel of the GTI (you will need a pair of pliers to pull the plug out of the recessed connector).

5.Disconnect the Phone plug from the back panel of the GTI.

6.(Master GTI only) Disconnect the two Site Controller data link plugs from the back panel of the Master GTI.

7.Disconnect the PCM Data Bus from the back panel of the GTI. If there are two cables (or one cable and a termination) quickly reconnect the two cables (or the cable and the termination) back together without the GTI and let hang).

NOTE

It is necessary to temporarily separate the two PCM Data Bus cables when disconnecting them

from a GTI. While separated, all GTIs connected to higher numbered radio channels will not be connected to the Master GTI and may cause interconnect abnormalities such as dropped calls and/or alarms.

Use the preceding procedure in reverse to reconnect the GTI to the MASTR II or IIe EDACS Repeater. Don’t forget to remove the jumper between pins 2 and 3 on the Power/Audio plug after plugging it into the GTI.

MASTR III Repeaters

Use the following procedure to disconnect a GTI from a MASTR III EDACS Repeater. (No jumper is needed.)

1.Disable the Interconnect parameter through the System Manager (screen 10, panel 1) for the specific channel number associated with the GTI being removed.

2.Disable the Line Active parameter through the System Manager (screen 14) for the specific channel number associated with the GTI being removed.

3.Disconnect the Power/Audio plug from the back panel of the GTI (you will need a pair of pliers to pull the plug out of the recessed connector).

4.Disconnect the Phone plug from the back of the GTI.
