5 CONFIGURATION

This chapter describes configuration settings for the 3C395 NIC and how to change them using the Configuration and Diagnostic Program.

Table 5-1 summarizes the configuration settings.

*In multitasking environments, choosing the Minimize CPU setting saves CPU resources for other tasks. If no other applications are making major demands on CPU resources, choose the Maximize Network Performance setting.

At 100 Mbps, setting the full-duplex option to Enabled improves the performance of switch or hub connections. The 3C395 NIC supports full-duplex mode at 10 or

100 Mbps. If a switch supports the NWay auto-negotiation feature and full-duplex operation, the NIC automatically runs in full-duplex mode.

CAUTION: Before setting the NIC for full-duplex mode, make sure that the port to which the NIC is connected is also set to full-duplex mode.
