Changing the Windows NT Registry
If the PC cannot run the Configuration and Diagnostic Program, you may need to set the NIC speed and duplex level in the Windows NT registry.
CAUTION: Mistakes in the registry can cause system crashes. Be sure to save a copy of the original registry settings before you make changes, so that you can restore the registry if necessary. If you are not sure about the registry settings, consult with a knowledgeable network administrator before proceeding.
You can set the NIC speed and duplex level in the registry by setting the MEDIA keyword in this subkey:
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services \E190x?\MEDIA keyword
where keyword is one of the following:
100HALF | 100 | Mbps with |
100FULL | 100 | Mbps with |
AUTO | Driver performs auto configuration | |
NotPresent | Use settings on EEPROM |
The default MEDIA keyword setting is NotPresent.
