1 Press STANDBY-ON y to turn on the DVD Recorder. Turn on your TV. Set it to the correct Video In channel. See pages 9-17.You should see the blue Philips DVD background picture on the TV screen (if no Disc is in the Recorder).

2 Press OPEN/CLOSE A on the front of the Recorder to open the disc tray. Load your Disc in the tray, with the label facing up and the shiny side facing down. If the Disc (DVD) is two-sided, make sure the label of the side you want to play is facing up.

3 Press OPEN/CLOSE A again to close the tray.

Play may start automatically. If not:

• For a DVD, a Disc menu may appear. Press 9CH-,8CH+, ;, or

: to select an item, then press OK. Continue until you set up

all the features you want or until the Disc starts playing. Follow the instructions in the DVD Disc menu. If Titles, Chapters, or features are numbered in the menu, use the Number buttons on the remote to choose an item.

• For an Audio CD, press PLAY : to start play.

• With a DVD+RW or DVD+R, an Index Picture Screen will appear. See page 30. Press 9CH- or 8CH+ to select a Title; press PLAY :. If the Disc is blank, the display panel will show “EMPTY DISC.”

5 To stop play at any time, press STOP C.

If Auto resume is On, play will resume at the same point the next time you play the Disc.To play the Disc from its beginning, restart play from the Disc menu.

If Auto resume is Off, Resume : will appear in the top left corner

when you start to play the Disc later.While Resume : appears,

press PLAY : to resume play from the point at which you last stopped it. Otherwise, play will start at the beginning of the Disc. Auto resume is On when you purchase the Recorder. However, you can turn it On or Off. See page 62.

Helpful Hints

If the Disc is Locked by Access Control, you must enter the four- digit code or authorize the Disc. See pages 54-56.

DVDs have a region code.Your Recorder will not play Discs that have a region code different from the region code of your Recorder. The Recorder’s region code is 1 (one). See page seven.
