CUSTOM COURSES

Two custom courses exist on the C966. The second custom course is available only if the Fitness Test is disabled. The incline on these courses can be preset by the club. Refer to Club Information on page 21.

FITNESS TEST

The Fitness Test (course number 16) provides a means of comparing your fitness level with official fitness test of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). The C966 Fitness Test is written using the Gerkin Protocol which is the basis for the official IAFF fitness test and part of their Wellness and Fitness Initiative.

Important: You must enter your age during the Setup prompts and wear a POLAR® chest strap or grasp the touch-sensitive portion of the handrail throughout the test.

Note: The Fitness Test is “enabled” at the factory (course number 16), however the club can remove it from the choice of courses on the C966. If Custom Course 2 appears as course number 16, the Fitness Test has been disabled by the club and is no longer available to the user. Ask the club owner or manager for assistance.

FITNESS TEST GUIDELINES

Before selecting the Fitness Test, read the following guidelines:

You must enter your age at the AGE setup prompt.

You must wear the POLAR® chest strap or grasp the touch-sensitive portion of the handrail throughout the test.

Let the test adjust the running belt’s speed and incline for you.The keyboard keys are disabled during the test. However, if you need to stop the running belt to regain control or reduce your heart rate, press the STOP button.

When you finish the Fitness Test, the running belt’s speed slows to 3 mph (5 kph) and the incline returns to zero. A one-minute cool-down period is appended to the test. After which, you can press QuickStart to enter the Manual course and continue cooling down. Press the Speed ▼▲ keys to regulate the running belt and return your heart rate to a normal, restful state.

To use the Fitness Test follow the steps found in Quick Steps to Working Out (page

34)and choose the appropriate program number at the Course prompt. Follow the remaining Setup prompts to enter your AGE. Once you have finished answering the Setup prompts, the following occurs:

The software verifies that it detects a heart rate signal. You need to press the Speed key to begin your workout.

Note: If your heart rate cannot be detected (or transmitted through the POLAR® chest strap or touch-sensitive grips ), the letters “HR” blink in the heart rate display. Once a heart rate is detected the number that corresponds to your heart rate appears.
