Table Parallelism

If the tables are not parallel with the cutterhead or each other, then poor cutting results and kickback can occur.

Checking Outfeed Table

1.DISCONNECT JOINTER FROM POWER!

2.Put on leather gloves.

3.Remove the cutterhead guard and the fence.

4.Loosen the outfeed table lock located at the front of the machine, then loosen the jam nuts and positive stop bolts located under the outfeed table (see Figure 45).

5.Place the straightedge on the outfeed table so it hangs over the cutterhead, then lower the outfeed table until the straightedge just touches the cutterhead body, as shown in Figure 46 (rotate the cutterhead if neces- sary).

6.Place the straightedge in the positions shown in Figure 47. In each position, the straight- edge should touch the cutterhead body and sit flat on the outfeed table.

—If the straightedge touches the cutterhead and sits flat across the outfeed table in each position, then the outfeed table is already parallel with the cutterhead. Check the infeed table to make sure that it is par- allel with the outfeed table.

—If the straightedge does not touch the cutterhead and sit flat on the outfeed table in any of the positions, then the outfeed table is not parallel with the cutterhead. Correct the outfeed table parallelism, then correct the infeed table parallelism.
