You can configure the email address to which you wish the notifications
to be sent. However, you cannot change the factory defau lt notification
messages for event emails.
RMON traps continue to be sent, in addition to a ny email notifications
you may receive.
The events that can generate email notification are:
Unit powers up.
Unit in the stack fails.
A link fails or retu rns to service — you can select s pecific links t hat you
wish to receive messages for, for example, a mission-critical link to a
server.
A security violation occurs.
Hardware Status Monitoring
Your Switch has a fan monitoring system that will generate fan failure
warning messages. Fan failure could potentially reduc e the lifetime of the
Switch.
The monitoring system polls the fan status at periodic intervals while the
unit is powered up.
Should a failure occur, a warning notification will be generated in one of
the following ways :
Via the CLI menu:
An indication of a general hardware failure will be provided on the
Command Line Interface (CLI) through the t op-level menu displayed
when logging on. For more detailed fault informa tion, you should
enter the system summary menu for the device. No device sta tus
information is provided when the fans are operation al. Figure 13
shows an example CLI screen, while Figure14 shows an example of an
individual unit system summary screen.
