About roaming

In most cases, your BlackBerry® device automatically connects to an appropriate wireless network when you travel outside your wireless service provider's wireless network coverage area.

An indicator appears on your device to let you know that you are roaming outside of your normal network area. You might also have to provide login information before you can access the wireless network. Contact your wireless service provider for more information about roaming.

Switch wireless networks manually

Verify that your wireless service plan includes this service and that your BlackBerry® device is in GSM network mode. By default, your BlackBerry® device switches to an appropriate wireless network automatically when you travel.

1.In the device options, click Mobile Network.

2.Change the Network Selection Mode field to Manual.

3.Click Scan for Available Networks.

4.Click a wireless network.

5.Click Select Network.

6.Press the Menu key.

7.Click Save.

To connect to your wireless service provider's network again, change the Network Selection Mode field to Automatic.

About global roaming

In global roaming mode, your BlackBerry® device is designed to connect automatically to an appropriate CDMA network or GSM network when you travel. Your wireless service provider must provide you with a SIM card that is set up for global roaming services before you can use a GSM network. When you insert the SIM card, your BlackBerry device automatically switches to global roaming mode. When you remove the SIM card, your BlackBerry device scans for CDMA networks only. If you switch between a CDMA network and a GSM network, the phone number for your BlackBerry device remains the same.

For more information about global roaming and roaming fees, contact your wireless service provider.

Global roaming prerequisites

Verify that you have inserted your SIM card into your BlackBerry® device. For more information about inserting a SIM card into your device, see the printed documentation that came with your device.

Verify that your wireless service provider supports this feature.

Verify that the network that you want to connect to appears in your preferred network list.
