Sending Methods

This section explains the two main sending methods: Memory sending and Manual

sending via the handset.

Memory Sending

Memory sending is a quick and easy way to send a document. As the FAX scans the

first page of a multipage document into its memory, it begins calling the other party

and transmitting the information even as the remaining pages are being scanned.

Since the FAX is multitasking, you can even scan a document into memory while

performing other tasks.

The FAX has enough memory to store up to approximately 448 pages* (FAXL295)

/ 350 pages* (FAXL220) (fewer if the document contains many graphics or

particularly dense text).

Follow this procedure to send a document using memory sending:

1Load the document, face down in the ADF

( p.43).

• To adjust the resolution and contrast,

seepp. 72, 73.

• You may be unable to send if the memory

used (shown in the LCD) is close to

100%

. Use manual sending via the

handset instead ( p.76).

2Dial the other party’s fax number.

• For dialling methods, see p. 74.

• If you enter the wrong number, press

Stop, then enter the correct number.

• If you are connected to a PBX and need

to first dial an outside line access number

(“9”, for example), add a pause after that

number by pressing Redial/Pause

( p.92).

Multiple sheets feed together into the FAX. Repeated paper jams occur. Faxing Problems Faxes sent from the FAX are spotted or dirty. Cannot send using Error Correction Mode (ECM). Errors occur frequently while sending. Receiving Problems Cannot receive a fax automatically. No automatic switching between telephone and fax calls. Cannot receive a document manually. Print quality is poor. Faxes do not print. Received faxes print blotched or unevenly. Cannot receive using Error Correction Mode (ECM). Copying Problems Cannot make copies. MEMORY FULL appears in the LCD when making multiple copies. Telephone Problems Cannot dial. Optional handset or telephone disconnects while you are talking. Printing Problems Alarm light is lit and the FAX beeps while printing. Printout does not match paper size. Printout is skewed. Paper jams occur. Printout is not clear. Printout has vertical white streaks. General Problems FAX has no power. Nothing appears in the LCD.
