Changing Character Size

There are seven character sizes that you can specify manually, plus six more that the Label Printer automatically applies. The following table shows all of the character sizes available. The unshaded sizes are those you can specify manually, while the shaded sizes are those that are applied automatically (and cannot be specified manually).

Important!

Note that certain character style and effects may result in poor print quality. This does not indicate malfunction of the Label Printer.

When the character size you select causes the text to become too large to fit on the tape you are using, the Label Printer automatically reduces the character size to fit. When this happens, the character size indicator shows the character size selected by the Label Printer. The character size indicator is highlighted to show that your selected size was adjusted to fit the tape.

About Auto Fit

If you do not specify a character size, the Label Printer automatically selects the optimum size that can be used to fit all of the characters on the tape. When using 9 to 18mm wide tape, for example, the Label Printer automatically uses 22 characters as the initial default. If you insert a newline mark inside the text (see “To input alpha-numeric characters”), the default character size automatically changes to 11 so both lines of text can fit on the tape.

About the FIT mark

Whenever you change the size of some of the characters on the display, the Label Printer recalculates the optimum size of all the remaining characters. It also recalculates when you input a newline mark (). When this happens, the Label Printer automatically inserts a fit mark ( FIT ) inside the text, which indicates that all text to the right of it is automatically adjusted to make it fit on the tape.

You can delete a fit mark, but if you do, the character size indicator will become highlighted to indicate that characters will be automatically adjusted to a size that can be printed.
