Monitoring the VMPS
Youcan display information about the VMPS by using the show vmps privileged EXEC command. The
switchdisplays this informationabout the VMPS:
VMPSVQP VersionThe version of VQP used to communicate with the VMPS. The switch queries
theVMPS that is using VQP Version 1.
ReconfirmIntervalThe number of minutes the switch waits before reconfirming the
VLAN-to-MAC-addressassignments.
ServerRetry CountThe number of times VQP resends a query to the VMPS. If no response is received
afterthis many tries, the switch starts to query the secondary VMPS.
VMPSdomain serverThe IP address of the configured VLAN membership policy servers. The switch
sendsqueries to theone markedcurrent. The one marked primary is the primary server.
VMPSActionThe resultof themost recentreconfirmation attempt. A reconfirmationattempt can
occurautomatically when the reconfirmation interval expires, or you can force it by entering the vmps
reconfirmprivileged EXEC command or its Network Assistant or SNMP equivalent.

Thisnetwork has a VMPS server switchand VMPS clientswitches with dynamic-access ports with this
configuration:
TheVMPS server and the VMPS client are separate switches.
TheCatalyst 6500 seriesSwitch Ais theprimary VMPSserver.
TheCatalyst 6500 series Switch C and Switch J are secondary VMPS servers.
Endstations are connected to theclients, Switch B and SwitchI.
Thedatabase configuration file is stored on the TFTP server with the IP address 172.20.22.7.
