Yourcompoundmiter sew does an excellentjob of
cuttingcrownmolding. In general,compound miter
sewsdo a betterjob ofcutting crownmoldingthan
anyother toolmade.
Inorder to fit properly,crown molding mustbe com-
pound miteredwith extreme accuracy.
The two contact surfaceson apieceof crown molding
that fit fiat againstthe ceilingand the wall of a room
areat angles that, when added together, equal
exactly90°. Most crown moldinghas a top rear angle
(the sectionthat fits flat againstthe ceiling) of 52° and
a bottomrear angle (the sectionthat fits fiat against
thewall) of 38 °.

To usethis method for accuratelycutting crown
moldingfora 90 ° insideor outside corner, laythe
molding withitsbroad back surface fiat on the miter
tableand againstthe fence.
When settingthe bevel and miter angles for Com-
poundmiters,remember that the seffings are interde-
pendent;changingone angle Changesthe other angle
as well.
Keepin mind that the anglesfor crown moldings are
veryprecisea_nddifficulttoset. Since it isvery easy
forthese angles to shift, all settingsshould firstbe
testedon scrap molding.Also most wallsdo not have
anglesof exactly90°, therefore, you will need to fine
tuneyour settings.
