Memory can be increased to a maximum of 384 megabytes (MB) by installing combi-
nations of 3.3-volt (V) 16-, 32-, 64-, and 128-MB dual in-line memo ry modules (DIMMs)
in the three DIMM sockets on the system board. Purchasing memor y upgrades from
Dell Spare Parts ensures system compatibility; thes e upgrades are also covered

systems can use SDRAM modules that provide error check-
ing and correction (ECC) capabilities. To support ECC,
all
installed DIMMs must be
ECC-capable.
NOTES: Your computer is designed for peak performance with specific DIMMs that
are validated through rigorous testi ng. The system may not recognize other synchro-
nous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) DIMMs and may fail power-on
self-test (POST).
The system must consist of either all ECC or all non-ECC memory.
You should install DIMMs starting with BANK 0 and working toward BANK 2, leavin g
no open socket between installed DIMMs.

The following non-ECC memory upgrade kits are available for your system:
One 32-MB non-ECC DIMM
A 48-MB upgrade kit consisting of one 16-MB non-ECC DIMM and one 32-MB
non-ECC DIMM
The following ECC memory upgrade kits are available:
One 32-MB ECC DIMM
One 64-MB ECC DIMM
A 96-MB upgrade kit consisting of one 64-MB ECC DIMM and one 32-MB ECC
DIMM
One 128-MB ECC DIMM
Table 2-3 lists the supported memory configurations and their socket placements.
