The Network Interface Test Group helps dia gnos e probl ems th at ma y be e ncoun tered
while the system is operating in a network environment. Table 7-12 lists the tests.
Most network failures are caused by one of the following problems:
Poor network connections
Failure of the network interface controller (NIC)
Interrupt conflict (the controller trying to use the same interrupt reques t [IRQ] line

Display Information Displays information about each SCSI host adapter in the
computer, the resources allocated to each adapter, and a
list of target devices attached to each adapter.
Device Self Test Causes the device to run its internal self-test.
Seek Test Checks a device’s ability to search for each block on the
device.
Verify Test Positions the read/write heads at each cylinder of a drive for
reading data and allows the drive to verify that all tracks on
the drive can be read correctly.
Read Test Positions the read/write heads at each block of the device
for reading data and allows the diagnostics to verify that all
tracks on the device can be read correctly.
Write Test Positions the read/write heads at each cylinder of a writable
device and verifies that all tracks on the drive can be writ-

Audio Test Causes the CD-ROM drive to begin playing th e f irst audio
track on an audio CD. To determine whether the test
passed, listen to the audio output of the drive.

NOTE: To conduct the Audio Test, you must select it indi-
