The Keyboard Test Group verifies the correct operation of your keyboard and the key-
board controller chip.
Keyboard problem s are not always caus ed by the keyboard. For example, a compl e te
lockup of the computer system, which includes an inoperable keyboard, is probably
caused elsewhere. The configuration of a program can ch ange the func tion of a k ey or
key combination. When a key does not work at all, run all the tests in the Keyboard
Test Group (described in Table 7-6).

NOTE: If the keyboard presented f or the Key Sequence and Interactive tests does n ot

match your keyboard, press <Enter> twice to begin cycling through available key-

board maps. Press <Esc> to view the next map, and press <Enter> to accept the

map that matches your keyboard.

The Mouse Test checks the functionality of the mouse controller and the operation of
the mouse buttons.
Mouse problems are as likely to originate in random-access memory (RAM) as they
are to be caused by a faulty mouse. Three sources of RAM-related problems include
the configuration of a program (which changes the function of the mouse), memory-
resident programs, and failure of a device driver (the software that controls the
function of the mouse). If you have eliminated th ese possibilities and the following
symptoms persist, run the Mouse Test:
When you press a mouse button, the function of the button continues; that is,
the button seems to be stuck.
