d) Lubricate drive wheel hubs once a year. First remove wheel, then remove
hub cap. Lubricate t he grease f it t ing on each wheel hub with an NGLI grade
no. 2 multipur pose gun grease, until gr ease appear s t hr ough outer bear ing.
Reinstall hub caps and wheels.
e) Replace 5-speed gearbox g r ease yearly. Use 18 oz. of Peerless gr ease
(Part No. 788067) . See Section 5.1.9.
5.1.14 Check spark plugs.
Service Interval: 160 hrs.
a) Remove spark plug s, check condition and adjust plug gap or r eplace with new
plugs. See Engine Owner's Manual.
5.1.15 Remove engine shrouds and clean cooling fins.
Service Interval: See Engine Owner's M anual
a) Stop engine, wait for all moving par t s t o stop, and remove k ey or spar k plug
wire(s).
b) Remove cooling shrouds from eng ine and clean cooling f ins. Also clean dust,
dirt and oil from external sur faces of engine which can cause improper cooling.
c) Make sure cooling shrouds ar e pr operly reinstalled. Oper at ing the engine
without cooling shrouds will cause engine damage due to overheating .
5.1.16 Change fuel filter.
Service Interval: As Required
a) A fuel filter is installed in the f uel line between the fuel tank and the eng ine.
Replace when necessary.
5.1.17 Refer t o Engine Operator s Manual f or detailed maintenance regarding the engine.
5.1.18 Thread locking adhesives such as “Loctite 242” or “ Fel- Pr o, Pro-Lock Nut - Type” are
used on the f ollowing fasteners:
a) Transmission dr ive sheave setscrews.
b) Wheel dr ive sheave setscrews on transmission output shafts.
c) OPC lever setscrews.
d) Sheave retaining bolt in end of engine cr ankshaf t .
e) Lower Sheave retaining bolt on clutch arm.
f) Fuel tank bulkhead fit ting threads (S/N 370,000 & higher ).
g) Cutter housing spindle nut.
Adhesives such as “Loctite RC/609 or RC/ 680” or“Fel-Pro Pr o- Lock Retaining I or
Retaining I I” are used on the following:
a) OPC lever hubs and cross-shaft
NOTE: Care must be used not to bond the bearing, next t o each OPC hub, to the
cross shaft which coul d cause bi ndi ng of the OPC levers and erratic operation.
b) Fuel tank st uds, where studs ar e inser ted into tank .
5.1.19 An anti-seize compound is used on the following locations:
a) Between engine crankshaft and t r ansm ission and blade dr ive sheaves.
b) On clutch arm assem bly between bearings and shaft and between lower
sheave and shaft.
c) Between transmission input shaft and sheaves.
d) Between transmission output shafts and sheaves.
e) Between transmission output shafts and bear ings.
