Intercepting a VOR Radial
NOTE: Changing the HSI mode cancels Navigation
Mode and causes the flight director to revert to
Roll Hold Mode.
During climb-out, the autopilot continues to fly the
aircraft in Heading Select Mode. Airway V107 to Panoche
VORTAC (PXN) should now be intercepted.
1) Tune the VOR frequency and activate Heading
Select Mode.
a) Use the CDI Softkey to set the HSI mode to
VOR.
b) Use the CRS Knob to set the Selected Course
to 116°. Note that at this point, the flight
director is still in Heading Select Mode and
the autopilot continues to fly 070°.

c) Press the
NAV
Key to arm Navigation Mode.
The white annunciation ‘VOR’ appears to the
left of the active roll mode.
2) When the CDI shows less than one dot, the
flight director changes from Heading Select to
Navigation Mode, and the green annunciation
‘VOR’ flashes. The autopilot begins turning to
intercept the Selected Course.
3) The autopilot continues the turn until the aircraft
is established on the Selected Course.
