Online reconfiguration of modular CFS package parameters

You can reconfigure existing modular CFS packages online, i.e., even when the package is running. Online reconfiguration of modular CFS packages involves addition, removal, and/or modification of CVM/CFS parameters for disk group, mount point, checkpoint, and snapshot packages. For steps on how to reconfigure a package, see “Reconfiguring a Package” (page 310).

The following table lists the parameters that can be reconfigured online for the various modular CFS packages:

Table 10 Package parameters that can be added, removed, or modified online

Packages Addition

Disk group cvm_disk_group cvm_activation_mode

Mount point cfs_mount_point cfs_volume cfs_mount_options cfs_primary_policy

Checkpoint ckpt_mount_point ckpt_name ckpt_cfs_mount_point ckpt_mount_options ckpt_primary_policy

Removal

cvm_disk_group

cvm_activation_mode

cfs_mount_point cfs_volume cfs_mount_options cfs_primary_policy

ckpt_mount_point ckpt_name ckpt_cfs_mount_point ckpt_mount_options ckpt_primary_policy

Modification

cvm_activation_mode

NOTE: Modifying this parameter typically works as an offline operation. When you modify cvm_activation_mode, the changes are reflected only when the package is restarted on a given node or when a new node is added. This is due to the limitation that changing CVM parameters while they are in use is not supported by Symantec.

If a mount point is associated with a disk group, when you modify cvm_activation_mode, the cfs_mount_options may be incompatible with the new disk group. In such a case, the package could fail on restart. You must manually validate that this change is compatible with the mount points.
