Replacing the Air Filter
If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly, the air filter may be clogged. If the machine is run with a dirty air filter, the spark plug can become fouled. It is important to replace the air filter regularly (see "Maintenance Schedule" for proper service intervals).
Kohler Engine
The standard engine is not equipped with a prefilter. As an option, a prefilter can be installed on the inside of the air filter cover.
1.Loosen the two retaining knobs and remove the cover. If the engine has a prefilter, it is mounted on the inside of the cover.
2.Clean the area around the filter element to prevent debris from getting into the engine when the element is removed.
3.Remove the filter element. Replace a dirty, bent or damaged element with a new one. Handle the new element carefully and do not use if the sealing surfaces are bent or damaged. If the element can be reused, tap it against a solid surface to remove dust.
4.Check the air cleaner base. Make sure it is secured and not bent or damaged. Also check the air filter cover for damage or improper fit.
Replace all damaged air cleaner components.
5.Install the filter element. Check that it fits properly and that no air leaks occur.
6.Install the cover and tighten knobs by hand.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Operating the engine with loose or damaged air cleaner components could allow unfiltered air into the engine causing premature wear and failure.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Do not use compressed air to clean the air filter.
Filter should be assembled dry and not be oiled.
