124 RS/6000 43P 7043 Models 150 and 260 Handbook
4.8 PCI Storage AdaptersIBM RS/6000 43P Models 150 and 260 support the following PCI-based
storage SCSI and SSA adapters:
• PCI Single-Ended Ultra SCSI adapter (# 6206)
• PCI Differential Ultra SCSI adapter (# 6207)
• PCI SSA Multi-Initiator/RAID EL Adapter (# 6215) with SSA Fast-Write
Cache option card (# 6222)
4.8.1 SCSI AdaptersThis section describes the available SCSI adapters for the Models 150 and
260.
4.8.1.1 PCI Single-Ended Ultra SCSI Adapter (# 6206)
The PCI Single-Ended Ultra SCSI adapter is an ideal solution for applications
requiring large block data transfers (> 64 KB block size) in multi-disk drive
environments utilizing SCSI-II protocol. This adapter has a maximum data
transfer rate of 40 MB/s which is two times the maximum data transfer rate of
Fast/Wide adapters. This adapter requires one PCI slot.
This adapter (# 6206) will automatically sense the presence of an external
device. The default mode of operation is for the adapter to limit negotiations
to fast (10 MB/s for 8-bit, 20 MB/s for 16-bit) operation whenever there is an
external attached.
4.8.1.2 PCI Differential Ultra SCSI Adapter (# 6207)
The PCI Differential Ultra SCSI adapter is the next generation of SCSI-II
performance with a maximum data transfer rate of 40 MB/s. This adapter
allows connection to external differential SCSI-II F/W of Ultra SCSI type
devices up to 25 meters away. This adapter will negotiate with each external
device and transfer data at the fastest SCSI data transfer rate capable by the
external device. Some external Differential Ultra SCSI devices include the
7137 Disk Array subsystem model and certain external disk drives models of
the 7204 family. The adapter conforms to SCSI-II standard and the Fast-20
(Ultra) documentation.
4.8.2 SSA AdapterThe PCI SSA Multi-Initiator/RAID EL Adapter (# 6215) is supported in the
Model 150 and 260. It is also supported by other PCI models in the IBM
RS/6000 family, including Models E30, F40, F50, H50, and S70.
