Fibre Channel problems

Note: All PCI-compliant and PCI-X-compliant systems automatically detect 32-Bit or 64-Bit adapters and set the appropriate bus speed (for example, 66 MHz or 133 MHz).

If you still have a system configuration problem, refer to the documentation that comes with your server, or contact your IBM technical-support representative to determine if your system board requires special configuration.

Fibre Channel problems

To determine if your installation problem is caused by an attached Fibre Channel device, perform the following tasks:

vVerify that all of the Fibre Channel devices were turned on before you turned on the server.

vEnsure that all cables are connected properly.

vVerify that you configured your RAID storage subsystems using the utilities provided by the manufacturer.

vIf your Fibre Channel switch supports zoning, make sure that your peripheral device is configured to the same switch zone as the FC 4Gbps PCI-X Adapter. For more information, refer to your Fibre Channel switch documentation.

In certain cases where the target device may not be able to auto-negotiate the Fibre-channel data rate properly, make sure that data rate setting on the FC 4Gbps PCI-X HBA matches the target device. For example, if the target device is operating at 2Gbps, set the FC 4Gbps PCI-X HBA data rate to 2Gbps.
