When you add a database using this con®guration method, the Client Con®guration Assistant will generate a default node name for the server where the database resides.

Con®guration Steps

To con®gure your workstation to access a database on a remote server, perform the following steps:

Step 1. Log on to the system with a valid DB2 user ID. For more information, see ªAppendix F. Naming Rulesº on page 165.

If you are adding a database to a system that has a DB2 Connect server product installed, log on to this system as a user with System Administrative (SYSADM) or System Controller (SYSCTRL) authority on the instance. For more information, see ªWorking with the System Administrative Groupº on page 138.

This restriction is controlled by the catalog_noauth database manager con®guration parameter. For more information, refer to the Administration Guide.

Step 2. Start the CCA. For more information, see ªStarting the Client

Con®guration Assistantº on page 133.

The Welcome window opens each time you start the CCA, until you add at least one database to your client.

Step 3. Click on the Add Database or Add push button to con®gure a connection.

Go to the section that describes the con®guration method that you want to use:

vªAdding a Database Using a Pro®leº.

vªAdding a Database Using Discoveryº on page 108.

vªAdding a Database Manuallyº on page 110.

Adding a Database Using a Pro®le

A pro®le contains information about instances and databases on a system, and databases within each instance. For information on pro®les, see ªCreating and Using Pro®lesº on page 112.

If your administrator provided you with a pro®le, perform the following steps:

Step 1. Select the Use an access pro®le radio button and click on the Next push button.
